Ok, so regardless of the type of business you run, one piece of SEO advice that you are likely to run into is to structure your site properly. Some will call it “siloing” some will call it “interlinking” and many will debate the vagaries of this structure over that. At the end of the day, here is the essence of it all boiled down in a nutshell. Here are the DOs and DONTs of interlinking pages.
- Do not waste time creating a bunch of useless pages that people will not search for. Put your contact me’s , CTAs and other action items on EVERY page rather than sending people elsewhere to get them.
- DO interlink pages that might be of interest to visitors. Do it early and often! Seriously. Do it on related pages AND on pages that people might go to as a one-off. (see example below)
- DON’T worry if the pages you are linking to have a different subject AS LONG AS the visitor will find them useful.
- DO make SURE that your navigation links look GOOD on mobile devices. (see example below).
EXAMPLE 1: This a page on a real estate site for homes in Dilworth Mountain in Kelowna. Take a look at the bottom of the page. There is a nice featured communities set of links there that take you to where you want to go. The look is aesthetically pleasing and if you look on a mobile you will see that on a mobile it looks good.
EXAMPLE 2: Here’s another example. Just outside of Fort McMurray Canada in Timberlea.http://www.fortmcmurrayhomes4sale.com/timberlea/timberlea/ Notice that this time the interlinking is in the content and ABOVE the listings so that the visitor is SURE to see all the options. Having these pages interlink helps reduce the bounce rate AND helps to create SEO benefit as interested people in living in Timberlea may want to look and condos there or various price ranges.
The pages are interrelated by niche or location or price. The more effectively you do this the better!
